After removing the beautiful Christmas tree and all of the decorations, the living room looks rather sad and is colder now. Funny how the tree made that much difference.
So now I’m trying to find inspiration from all of my magazines, Pinterest, Interior Design Forum, Deb’s (both my favorite Deb’s) sites, etc. I like changing things so that there is a new feel but still comfortable so when I come home every evening, I’m glad to be here. For now, I’ve lit some candles, have the flicker from one of the vintage inspired lightbulbs and my beautiful Pottery Barn lamp sits in the corner with the warmth of it’s incandescent bulb.
As I opened the the January 2015 Pottery Barn catalog I loved reading this: Re-Imagine your home. What better time than the new year to re-imagine and refresh your home? Changing the focus of a room can be as simple as introducing a new color palette or the addition of unique and artistic accessories.
My refresh will be: adding books to tabletops, creating warmth to the sterile room, added the fur pillows and thicker throw blankets. I like a mix of rustic and modern – a very eclectic feel.
I love having low lighting and candles as opposed to stark overheads. But for reading, I need to add some better ambient lamps. I need to create the mood of relaxation and softness. And I need to add more bookcases – at this time probably a combination of low and high. Michael wanted to create a wall surround, but since we are renting I want to create something temporary but still nice to look at.
I liked these ideas (found on Pinterest) – basic Ikea with pallet wood backing – but I want to make sure to add some molding to the frame to make it a bit more elegant.
