In the period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, American households generate 25% more waste — that’s about 1 million extra tons of trash each year. According to the CDC, if every American family wrapped just 3 presents in re-used materials, it would save enough paper to cover 45,000 football fields! With so much to celebrate this season, let’s not forget about mother earth. This stylish and sustainable gift wrapping technique is easy, fun, and gives an extra layer of both thought and beauty to all of your holiday gifts. Best of all, it can be customized to any time of year from birthdays to Mother’s Day, and more.
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Brown paper shopping bag, scissors, tape, white paint, 1 paint brush
STEP 1: Gently remove handles from the bag.
STEP 2: Cut out the bottom while making sure not to damage the body of the bag.
STEP 3: Cut along one of the folds from bottom to top.
STEP 4: Make sure to wrap the gift with the grocery store’s artwork facing up to avoid any writing showing after wrapping.
STEP 5: Wrap gift.
STEP 6: After wrapping, squeeze a little bit of white paint onto a piece of scrap paper from your bag. Paint strokes on the paper going the same direction each time. Make sure to use only a small amount of paint to give the distressed look.
STEP 7: Get Creative. Have fun finding ribbon, twine, and as many flowers as you’d like to dress your gift. We used peonies and Christmas tree varieties such as pine.
I LOVE this idea – and I may put my daughter-in-law in mind for this, she’s my artist….
