In Character: How to Dress Like a Nineties Witch
When we set out to choose a Halloween-themed In Character subject, we found that our cauldrons runneth over with options. No offense to the O.G. ladies of Salem, but we’re pretty partial to the relatable, stylish witches of the nineties (you know, before things got all weird with that Blair Witch chick). Here’s how to dabble in a little of their darkness on the 31st or any ol’ eve, really.
Invest in Velvet
From SJP’s busty velvet bodices in Hocus Pocus to Sabrina, The Teenage Witch’s plush polos, you can’t cast spells on ANY level without some of the fuzzy stuff in the mix.
Snag a Slip Dress
You knew this was coming, right? Naught a nineties witch would dare toil (or, let’s be honest, trouble) without this standby.
Add Some Leather
Evil (slash misunderstood?) teen queens have always known this to be a key ingredient in an otherworldly outfit. Buffy worked the leggings, the gals from The Craft went biker jacket, and the women of Charmed never met a leather bustier they didn’t like.
Conjure Up a Gown
SERIOUS strides were made in the witch public-image department during this period, thanks to a whole lot of babely HBICs who opted for formalwear (we’re looking at you, Morticia).
