I have followed Rachel Ashwell since the early 2000’s when she hosted her Shabby Chic TV shows, where she featured both her beautiful homes and my favorite portions when she would head out to Long Beach flea markets (or several around her) and she and her team (mainly this one cute carpenter that I recall) where they would get some GREAT finds and either refinish or just ‘Shabby Chic’ the items into even better decor items! I also had to make sure I went to one of her Los Angeles shop before she ‘had to close it’…
Not only do I own MOST of her books (I found out I don’t have 2 of her latest – but have ordered them now) so when I realized that I had given myself the opportunity to drive to Round Top (while we trekked from Waco/Austin), I KNEW I HAD TO GO! I loved Magnolia store (I actually LOVE their story) but, Rachel’s style has always been one of my first passions! She’s why I love my two Pottery Barn white slip covered sofas… but OMG her Prairie Farm and THIS about ‘broke my heart’ (okay so I DID break my heart that I (we) missed this!!! it was for 2015! … This past April 10th thru April 12th I hosted a Shabby Chic Workshop. My new book “The World of Shabby Chic” was to be the framework of discussion, as it touches on “my story, my vision & beautiful homes”, therefor setting the path to discuss my childhood thru my business journey and then onto designing homes.
This is my WANT and has been my passion (to have a place like Rachel’s Prairie) with all the beautiful things and the wide open space (she owns 40 acres of this ranch) and OMG to have that same Southern Hospitality would make it just perfect! I have to admit, I didn’t know I’d MISSED some of these things (the kindness/friendliness of strangers, the sounds, some of my southern roots and most of all, the support of some great family members)!
So, enjoy just a few of the beautiful photos that I was fortunate enough to take of Rachel’s Round Top Prairie Farm – I have to come back and stay here! It (sadly) moved my sister (Monette) too – but more because it reminded her of her (soon to be ex husband).
We weren’t able to see ALL of the rental cabins/cottages, but still loved seeing the shop/dining area, barn and the two adorable ones that Kim so graciously showed us (along with the beautiful property).
Now do you see why I WANT THIS?! 🙂 This is my Simple Romantic Life…
