I finally got a house! After seeing several homes, this was my 4th offer and this one was accepted and passed inspection. The second offer was accepted, but it didn’t pass inspection. Closed on October 30th and got my keys right after work. It felt GREAT!
And so I asked M if he wanted to join me as I decided to spend the weekend in the empty home. He loved the idea & was so cute, he put together our little ‘camping’ stuff – the air mattress, sleeping bags, basic supplies and of course, champagne and glasses! On Halloween, after my work event, we headed straight over to the house and unloaded our stuff. We then drove over to Westlake Mall and looked for some quick ‘dinner’ to take back to the house. The fun part was seeing all the little kids Trick-o-Treating at the mall.
As we set up our mattress in the living room, he managed to load the laptop with a movie and we sat on the floor and also had a few Trick-o-Treaters stop by. Luckily we had brought a bag of candy and I loved seeing the kids come to the house.
My goal for sleeping in the house was to listen to it. I wanted to hear what the heater sounded like (if it was noisy/loud) and also if there were any other noises, to run all the faucets, check the window seals, etc. I know it’s funny, but I do the same with my cars. Well I can say that the house was perfectly sound.
And the next morning we enjoyed opening the windows to a little fog and watching the squirrels scamper across the fence.
Off to get supplies from Home Depot and then start our projects. And a few weeks later we finished what we could get done… I painted the basement, touching up the stained walls, adding a red accent wall that the daughter wanted.
M fixed the heater vent thats in the living room floor, it was cracked and the frame needed to be redone to support more weight (which they obviously did not repair).
We will remove the paint off the cover and stain it to match the floor.
I changed the shower heads, reset the toilet seats, cleaned, re-caulked the tub, cleaned out the oven, fridge and the garage.
Need to touch-up paint the living room and the leftover furniture will be donated.
And then this last weekend when my sister came over to see the house, she helped M and I add the faux shutters to give the front some cute curb appeal. What do you think?
I’m SO happy with my new little home and look forward to those rehab additions next year!
IE: upstairs bathroom – claw foot tub, pedestal sink and octagon tile. Deck – completely redone (extended) even over the garage and adding a door off kitchen that leads out to the new deck (where the current window is). Yard – little white picket fence, grass planted, change tree for nicer one, remove the old dead trees from back yard and install ?? under the new deck. Replace the handrails off the entry and redo the cement walkway (widen to fit the steps). And install a new gate on the back fence…
