I’m sitting in the sun (enjoying my ‘final’ weekend (day off – Monday) after my first REAL girlfriend weekend getaway. I have been wanting one of these for such a long time and I’m thrilled that I got the chance to go with Ms. Erica. I guess the best things do come later in life?!
We left early Saturday morning, and the SUN was a nice start, so as I joking told her, “we’re pulling a Thelma and Louise” (okay, the topless (convertible that is) driving part – hee hee). But I did joke, “so which one are you? the slutty one?” LOL Thankfully she laughs at my sick sense of humor – definitely a good friend will do that!
We found our little AirBnB (rental) cabin – it was overlooking the lake, but the power lines were probably the only downside to it (oh and the noisy fridge). We arrived too early so we drove over to see Debi & Jim at Ormolulu to find out what time they would need our ‘help’ (I volunteered to help Debi with her Grand Opening of her amazing store. (She’s been there since October, but with the holidays & other shows they didn’t have time for a real Grand Opening Celebration).
At a bit of chit-chat, Erica and I walked around Bellingham and stopped into a few stores. We could hear music coming from one of the streets and thought there was some sort of festival – well it was just a record store (Avalon Music) hosting two live bands (Staxx Brothers and Baby Cakes) to invite people in. We stopped (since he was singing some old school tunes – James Brown also) and we had fun dancing around with the others.
Off we went to then do some more site seeing and eventually we headed back to the lakeside cabin to drop off our stuff. And then we met Debi and Jim for dinner at Scotty Browns. That was fun, especially watching Erica and Debi share some laughs – I love it when you just ‘know’ people are going to hit-it-off. How could they not, they BOTH are such great ladies! After we were leaving, I noticed the way the ‘ley’ on the Barkley Village sign lights were out; so I (once again bad humor) said, “oh look its Bark Village”… (dumb ass). LOL
Sunday morning Erica made coffee (thank GOD for coffee) – lol, I didn’t sleep too well because of the noisy fridge (it was on my bedroom wall side).
A quick shower, dress to impress (all black – I’m told it’s slimming) (lol) and off we went to Ormolulu! I (as usual) brought the camera and got to play ‘unprofessional photographer’… but first Erica and I were greeted by the SPREAD… (oh crap, I think the spandex in my pants just split a seam)! Two amazing sisters – Kathrine Parry and Sherry Johnson Lussier were Debi’s caterers. Oh and I have to ‘thanks Kathrine & Sherry’ (lol) for displaying the cupcakes on that cute tin tiered table – I BOUGHT IT!)
If you are ever in Bellingham, or traveling on I-5 to or from Canada – by all means, make this a stop! Debi’s decor is fascinating, you find something different every way you turn, it makes you reminisce about simpler times, items that you may have had in your past or families past, and things that you just know you want to find a place in your home & heart for. But the BEST part of Ormolulu – is DEBI BURTON… she’s a hugger (thank God) and those beautiful blue eyes, that sincere, sweet smile and infectious laugh – like me (and now Erica) you immediately want to call her friend! (And thankfully I do).
Debi and Jim have made their new ‘store’ by creating a beautiful, inviting display (after lots of hard work to get the facility to look this good) – words I heard a lot were, “I could live here,” “I want everything,” and “Debi and Jim are so talented.” (I didn’t share this with them, because I wanted to save it for my followers and encouraging you all to visit, even if through Facebook). They still travel to shows, so always look for them. Enjoy some of the highlights I had the honor to photograph… and seeing those smiles made me happy too!
It was a full day and I’m glad that I took Erica back to the lake cabin to get some rest (although she ended up switching bedrooms with me, to see if I could sleep) – how nice is she! So after a full day, and lots of grazing on the great food – we were all pretty pooped but I still managed to make Erica a margarita and some guacamole. We shared some laughs, some ‘ordeals’ and I learned more about my friend and being able to enjoy her company with Debi and several of Debi’s friends as well – it made for a great weekend.
We ended our weekend this Monday morning; but had the pleasure of going to breakfast with Debi before we needed to get back (Erica was needed at home) and I announced that we will now be known as the Sassy Seniorita’s. As I told them, Sassy is the cute sign that I bought from Debi last time I was here (rather appropriate) and Seniorita is a play on the ‘Senior’ club. LOL We are happily also taking new members… just let us know..
These two women have taught me so much in such a short time, I’ve felt so comfortable with them and I’m grateful to them for being here for me as well.
Until our next adventure, thank you for letting me share my fun FIRST girlfriends weekend.
