I want to thank Tanya (Michael’s stepmom), Tom (his father) and Michael himself for my Thanksgiving holiday – to Bora Bora (French Polynesia, Tahiti).
Yes, I am truly blessed to now say that in my lifetime (currently) that I have now officially traveled to TWO amazing international trips. My first (I gave myself for my 50th birthday) a tremendous trip to Italy and now to have been blessed (at 51) to have gone to another International trip to an amazing place – Bora Bora! This one was for (sweet) Tom’s 70th birthday! Tanya had taken care of this for all of their family and I was thrilled to be a part of it (and the family)!
I’m sharing some of the photos (below), but I wanted you all to know how much gratitude I had/have and what I got out of this trip. Besides those ‘typical’ occasional moments of ‘family dynamics’ (we all have them), I was also able to spend some solace (even within myself and time TO myself) to just reflect on my surroundings, enjoying the immensely beautiful blue waters, appreciating every moment and even reading a whole book and starting another one.
We had fun times, we did several events together (snorkeling trips – Eco Tours – swam with the sharks and sting rays; swimming, kayaking, walking to the beaches and several amazing dinners). But the little moments I stole to myself were also very blissful. This included just taking photos of all of the beautiful florals, foliage, water, and mentally taking in the sounds. I even managed to find the cutest little kitten (who sadly had burnt off whiskers) that I managed to ‘claim’ for a short time (and feed).
But watching Michael with his family – seeing how they naturally gravitate to him (and want his support and sometimes reassurance) also made me smile and appreciate/love him even more. He did have his stresses, but to see how he handles his family/life and how he still found moments of joy himself (loved watching how natural he is snorkeling and diving) and playing with Flynn (his cute little nephew) made me happy. He tried to finish reading his own book (had lots of interruptions) but when WE had moments to just both sit next to each other, read and take quiet moments; I knew even more that I am in love with this man – AND his family! No matter the moments when I felt like I needed to just keep quiet (not get involved) and also knew to not overstep my ‘position’ (don’t ruffle Tanya’s feathers) – all I could think about was gratitude. Gratitude that they invited me, allowed me to be a part of the family and they brought me to this beautiful little island paradise.
Now I should add that Bora Bora IS very pricey (because food/basic items are shipped in), I DID get a little stressed about our funds. Michael took care of most of this (which I still also appreciate) but I did manage to help out financially as well (happy to pay for him to go scuba-diving) (our final dinner) – but I forgot about that at least for awhile. What I got out of this was a wonderful (1 1/2 books) on (ways to create a future business plan) as well as another great book on Finding my Happiness. And I DID find it!!
