On Sunday, I made it my goal to finish working on the Spring Inspiration fireplace mantel. Thank you to the couple of people for some advice.
Reminder, here’s what I started with:
I was SO excited to find my favorite store: Home Goods (IS in Washington) – note, stupid Google showed NO searches a few years ago (except for their sister companies, Ross & TJ Maxx). NOT the same. Home Goods was my preferred place to find all sorts of home decor items, at great prices and lots of fun options. For a former window/display artist (okay so back in the 80’s that’s not what we were called) this place is sometimes better than wholesale…
As Michael had to go toward Lynnwood (anyways) to go pick up Ethan from his cousin’s I was excited to have him DROP ME OFF (aka, no men wanted/needed) and I wanted all the time I could to search/peruse and get ‘re-acquainted’… (lol). Arrived before their opening of 11:00am, so I walked over to Ross (same shopping center) and laughed at how much it looked like an abandoned version of Goodwill (sad). Thrilled to walk back, just before 11:00am, where I was not surprised to see about 8 others waiting for the doors to open. Wow!
Cart in hand (big one) I was thrilled to walk in and see on the front of the display my favorite large ginger jar/curved glass vases (to replace the two that unfortunately ‘lost their heads’ (lol) from one too many moves). I placed two in the cart, and then had difficulty in keeping some other white ‘faux stoneware’ items from going back & forth in the cart – couldn’t make up my mind. Two blue/white striped glass canisters made it in (they were for my daughter) and off I FINALLY went to the next few aisles. Seriously, I spent so much time just in the front of the store.
I sauntered back & forth through every aisle, hoping not to miss anything and you have to look high & low or you might miss something that somebody else put in a wrong/different place. SCORE! I came upon two white glass milk containers (like the old school ones) – I snapped them up and of course a lady next to me asked where they were… ‘too sad, too bad’ I got the only two (okay that I saw) as I deviously said… (karma, she found some in another location)! Whatever!!
I only got to the linen section when the boys found me in the store and I happily told them, “go over to Red Robin’s for lunch, I’m going to be awhile” (aka, a LOT longer). hee hee
I didn’t get any linen items (yet) and then found some cute art, but ended up only getting a smaller version of my fabric pin board and thought that since it was smaller, I needed to add the small chalkboard (similar frame but in white) and the burlap board also, along with a similar white wood frame. Perfect grouping. When I put them all together in my cart I noticed a couple standing behind me and as I turned around the man looked at his wife and said, “you’re going to want for me to find the same things she just did, right?” I laughed and she smiled this cute big grin at me and he actually said ‘thanks’ but with a bit of a smirk.
Another woman was near us and she told me, “I’m working on my first home staging project, that was a good idea you shared with them.” “What do you think of this art print?” I told her I liked it and asked where she was planning to put it. She said in a small bathroom, and then asked my ‘advice’ on what she should add with it. (Flattered given that SHE is doing the staging). I happened to have a round bristle bath brush in my cart and told her, “use this along with an over the tub rack, (which was back near the linen section) but to give it a little masculine feel add the beer bottle colored bubble bath and one of the sepia toned candles.” Again I got a thanks and felt very happy with myself for offering advice.
THIS is why I love this store – you find people with similarities (who like to change their decor) and now people who are decorating for a business.
Several more isles, lots more now in my cart, and I even had to head back to the linen section to grab a yellow hand towel to go with my ‘beach/lake’ signs (future summer decor options).
And happily, I found some cute items to add to the mantel – to fill in the blank area between the candle scones. What do you all think? Michael loved our new ‘farmhouse style’ mantel and HE is the one who wanted to add (one) of the white milk bottles… (wah-la, the finale):
Michael was actually inspired, that HE took these photos for me and wanted me to include them here. He likes the whole look. 🙂
