This weekend Michael and I wanted to spend some time together – just the two of us. So Friday, after work, we stayed in Seattle and walked over to the movies. We went to see Reese Witherspoon’s, Wild. It was a perfect movie for ‘us’ to see, we both enjoy hiking. It’s the true story of Cheryl Strayed and it just reminded us why we enjoy and MISS our hiking trips. Definitely recommend it.
Afterwards we walked back to my work to get the car and enjoyed seeing some of the Christmas decorations as well as some of the cute window displays…
We luckily got back just in time too, it started to sprinkle and then by the time we were driving home, it started pouring once again.
Then Saturday morning I told Michael that I missed our road trips as well, so we showered and then took off to unknown adventures. Michael drove toward Portland on I-5 but I had him stop for a quick-lunch and asked him to ‘re-route’ since I had just taken Brittany & mom to Portland, I’d already been down that road… (no pun intended). So we veered back toward Seattle, on Highway 301 along the islands toward Hood Canal first.
As we made our way toward the ferry, we came up to Port Gamble. It’s this cute little town whose history is that they are ‘required’ to maintain all of the homes and it has this ‘almost Stepford Wives’ look. But this evening, we just happened to come upon it at just the right time. This weekend was their Holiday Event and “happily” (for me) we stopped and went to see some of the stores. I bought some great Christmas ornaments from the General Store while Michael took advantage of their wine tasting.
And as we walked toward the car, they started the firework displays… perfect timing!
We took the Kingston Ferry home and stopped for groceries for a great meal to end the nice evening. Michael enjoyed a steak while I made a fantastic salmon with béarnaise sauce that I found in one of my magazines earlier that morning. Definitely a great meal for both of us!
Sunday we woke up a bit later to another great weather day and after a few ‘chores’ – Costco shopping, he getting a much-needed haircut, we drove over to pick up my mom and took her to see Little House and visit my daughter. This was the first time mom got to see my new house and it was good to hear her nice comments about it and to tell Anais how happy she is that she is staying in MY house. Anais was also glad to see grandma.
A nice weekend and much-needed time to ourselves again. But mostly SO glad for our road trip adventure!
