A little late post, but following the whirlwind Haven Conference that Monette and I attended (August 5-7th), I am still going through everything. From the swag bag, giveaways, business cards and mostly the notes from the sessions I attended.
This was our first time attending this (so far 5 year conference) and I was a very excited when I signed up, but admit that I was a little apprehensive once I got there. It is slated as “open to all who are passionate about blogging, DIY projects, and creating beauty in the home” ALL of which I love, but once I was there, I felt a bit out of place. There are so many bloggers who have such a huge following, who have such expertise and well, there were some beautiful ‘young ladies’ whom I felt a bit out of sorts with. But I was happy that some of the ‘older bloggers’ (like myself) also introduced themselves, made me feel a kinship (you know, that little ‘Southern Thang’) and by the end of Saturday night, my rush of excitement came back (okay, besides the jet lag and not sleeping) I still came home excited to RENEW my blog and use as much of what I learned!
I want to thank the speakers/teachers and ALL of the great sponsors. As a former corporate event planner (included conferences) I know exactly what all goes into these. I commend each of you and (offer) my services next year, if anyone is interested? (little plug/self promotion there – lol).
Some of the classes were a bit daunting (for us newbies) – would have liked a few more newbie only sessions, but believe me besides all the GREAT notes, the much appreciated downloads (from some of the speakers) and links, there is something for everyone!! I would suggest if you do want to attend as a newbie, find a mentor (one of the great blogs you follow) and ask questions.
Enjoyed some more fun with my Thelma (Monette) and glad I bought us our t-shirts. They were a little icebreaker and it was amusing to have people ask “where’s Thelma” (when Monette wasn’t with me).
Now to go play with some of the swag bag/giveaways. Until next year, thank you Haven Conference for an enlightening event!
