With all of our Seattle grey days of late and the constant rain, we are experiences S.A.D. states again. S.A.D.: seasonal anxiety disorder. It happens here. The heavy rains leave the grounds disarrayed, the trees are bare, the winds have also added to the dirty look outside and the grey days seem eternal.
How to deal with S.A.D.
There are some people who use the lightbulbs that give a slow progression (similar to a sunrise) that doctors say to use in your bedroom to help you wake. But unless your going to walk around with that light bulb over your head (pun INTENDED), it’s not going to help you once you leave the house.
You have to mentally look for ways to create happy thoughts, moods, etc. A bit impossible if your already in a state of funk and depression. Personally I find that trying to add some color, spots of color to be exact, that your eye catches at different places around you. Use the light bulb in the morning, but then add some brighter towels for the shower. Then maybe a fun coffee mug. Most definitely add some upbeat music to your drive into work (also if you can) play it LOUD, SING! Put away the cell phone, work can wait till you get there, just look and feel silly. Seriously, be THAT person in the car that others stare at – hell, if anything you will make others smile/laugh. And we all need that!
Note to Passive Drivers
I can’t help you with traffic (wish I could) but I will say to those here in the Seattle – please look around you. If YOU are holding up traffic in the far left lane, move over. Stop being selfish – that is just being passive aggressive and guess what, that shit is making not only others mad, but it just makes YOU an ass. And asses aren’t happy people, their just selfish. Put down the cell phones, really you don’t need to LIKE just before getting to work – again, it won’t help with the grey days and it most certainly won’t help you. Again, listen to some tunes, be aware – we’ve already experienced two major truck accidents in the last two weeks that have caused huge traffic delays. But I will tell you, I’ve seen some stupid moves from cars not being aware (check your blind spots), drifting into lanes or just being stupid and cutting in front of big trucks. Um, hello, they drive like shit already – don’t give them reason to cause accidents because you think you can cut in front of them.
Back to Happy Thoughts
We can’t change the weather, besides S.A.D. happening here in Seattle, the East Coast is dealing with some major issues themselves. Basically that little groundhog was finally right this year. Hmmm, wonder if it also has anything to do with the stupid antics of the politics from last year? LOL You know, we sent the universe the bad thoughts?
When you find yourself drifting into depression, you have to mentally also TELL YOURSELF, stop! Get over it! Don’t Worry – Be Happy!
